Flowers of the Forest Memorial Ceremony

Every year at the Bitterroot Celtic Games & Gathering's daily opening ceremony, Flowers of the Forest is played while those who have passed in the last year are honored by the reading of their names.

Flowers of the Forest is an ancient Scottish folk tune commemorating the defeat of the Scottish army of James IV at the Battle of Flodden in September 1513. Due to the content of the lyrics and reverence for the tune, it is one of the few tunes that many pipers will perform in public only at funerals or memorial services.

If you have a name you wish to have read during the Flowers of the Forest ceremony, please send us a message, or submit it at the Bitterroot Celtic Games & Gathering information tent.
